delirious: (free)
Actually, it's really hard for me not to talk about how much I love DBSK, wherever I am, at home or at work. Just the other day this Japanese lady told me - "I love this song, I have their Japanese album!" She was a late twenties.early thirties looking lady and my response was just to go "I love them to bits!!!" gushing at her while she walked out the door.

I like that even at work I can connect to people via music, because I have my ipod on the system and people have asked me what is playing, was that a song by a taiwanese artist, who sang that song and such.

I don't think liking boy bands are a bad thing at all in general as long as one has a sensible approach to it. For example, knowing that first things first, these entertainment companies are out for your money. Then after that it is up to you (me) to decide how emotionally involved I want to be. Despite the label 'boyband', not all of them are talentless, good looking (and most of the time debatable), plastic, dolled up boys and girls with dreams of fame. The whole concept of "idols" is that these people set examples to people who follow them, but things have obviously changed because all the groups that are debuting as "idols" are getting younger and younger, with varied concepts etc. I ramble. But I don't think the old definition of "idols" apply to the current generation of pop acts any longer, specifically kpop (because that's all I've been listening to recently, besides my staple of jrock)

Here I arrive at my point - DBSK is not just an idol boy band. I suspect they've long surpassed that and have come out top. I'm barely educated on their fan history but their music, oh god, their music. It makes me feel that despite all the bad reputation that their entertainment company has (and come to light with the current lawsuits) the company has their music production done right. DBSK blends my tastes for jpop and kpop together because they straddle both scenes with the same voices but different styles. Changmin and Jaejoong do the occasional jrock song to keep me happy.

I read this post today about Jaejoong's talent for singing and it made me want to write this post, to document how much awe I have, how much respect I have for Jaejoong as a singer. I mean, I've successfully avoided DBSK since secondary school. Why get into them now? But why miss out on good music and a gorgeous voice?

Being able to understand and really feel music does not only mean knowing how to perform a song, one must also be familiar with the characteristics of the piece.
It is not a matter of flaunting one's singing ability, it is about helping the people who are watching the movie to immerse themselves in the scene and be moved by it. That is what music is.

blurb

The coffee cup that has cooled down
a little is like a merry-go-round
It mimics our inertia

Let's kiss one more time, and
expose your secret
Beyond your tongue and mine,
there's the truth...

kiss twice, kiss me deadly,
アリス九號
